Minnawarra House Youth & Family Counselling Service

Minnawarra House is a Community House located in Armadale. We provide a counselling service to Young people between 12 and 18 and their families.

If you need Individual Counselling, Relationship Counselling or advice on Parenting, we are here to help.

We can help you address issues including:

  • anger and behavioural management
  • depression and anxiety
  • bullying
  • school refusal
  • self-harm or suicidal thoughts
  • self-confidence and self-esteem
  • parent and adolescent conflict
  • physical, emotional and sexual abuse
  • sexuality and gender identity issues
  • trauma and grief
  • relationship issuess

Our team of university trained and experienced counsellors utilise a number of therapies as appropriate:

  • cognitive behaviour therapy
  • transactional analysis
  • gestalt therapy
  • protective behaviour education
  • parenting skills
  • narrative therapy
  • emotional focused therapy
  • sand play, play and art therapies
  • integrative therapy

Eligibility: Young people 12-18 years old and family members. All counselling fees are negotiable, depending on your financial circumstances.

Minnawarra House Family Support Program

Minnawarra House runs a wide variety of programs aimed at supporting families through social, practical and therepeautic groups. Our groups are open to residents of Armadale and the South-East Metro area. Most groups welcome people off all ages.

Food Bank
Fresh bread, fruit and vegetables are available at 9.45am on Tuesday mornings, to Concession Card holders.
May not run during school holidays.

Social groups
We host a weekly Coffee & Muffin Morning, and a monthly Bookclub.

Arts and Craft groups
You can learn or enhance your creative and artistic skills with our Starting a New Thread, Painting and Pottery workshops. Held weekly in the mornings.

Children's groups
On Tuesday afternoons we have the Girls Group group for girls 12-15.
On Wednesday afternoons we run the Kidz Klub groups for children 7-14.
On Thursdays afternoons we have the Boys Group group for boys 11-14.
On Sundays afternoons Sunshine Welfare Mission hosts the Heart of Love program, with activities for kids of all ages.

Therapeautic and Self-Development groups
We are running an Art Therapy group for adults on Thursday afternoons.A Meditation group for women runs on Wednesday afternoons.

We host a Seniors Broadband Kiosk, open during office hours, with a tutor available by appointment. On Mondays Lester can teach you how to grow a Bonsai tree. On Wednesday afternoons there is a Chi Kung exercise group for all.
